The Randall Raiders bounced back from a heartbreaking overtime loss a week earlier with a resounding 45-14 win Friday night at Dumas to clinch a high school football playoff berth out of District 3-4A.

The win by Randall (8-1, 3-1) came via a great first half in which the Raiders rolled to a commanding 42-14 lead. They grabbed a 21-0 lead after one quarter thanks to a 8-yard run by Tyler Junell, a 25-yard pass from Collin Bowen to J.P. Juarez, and an 18-yard run by Bowen.

The closest the Demons (4-5, 1-3) would get after that was 21-7 when Nathan Thomas scored on a 7-yard run in the second period.

Randal then went up 28-7 on a 17-yard run by Ty Stewart before the Demons cut the deficit to 28-14 on a Josh Diaz run from 3 yards out.

Junell added a TD run from 4 yards out and Bowen hooked up with Aaron King on a 38-yard pass play to give the Raiders their 42-14 halftime lead.

The only scoring in the second half came in the final quarter on a 28-yard field goal by Randall’s Zack Dominguez.

“We were able to establish our running game early and that was a big key for us,” Randall head coach Bryan Wood. “Once we were able to run the ball effectively it gave our offense a lot of confidence.

“Our running game set up our first TD in the opening quarter, and we just kept it going from there. It was a nice win for us, especially after losing to Amarillo High the previous week in a close game like we did.

“This win gives us the No. 1 seed in Division I.”

Junell was the game’s leading rusher with 20 carries for 135 yards. Bowen added 62 yards on only five carries while completing 4 of 10 passes for 77 yards and two TDs. The Raiders had 379 yards total offense.

Dumas quarterback Rylan Gerber completed 11 of 27 passes for 140 yards and rushed for 86 yards on six carries to lead the way for the Demons who had 380 yards total offenes.

Frenship 51

Lubbock High 6

The drought is over for Lubbock High.

While the Westerners lost their District 4-4A game to Frenship, they’ll still be going to the playoffs by virtue of Hereford’s 42-20 win over Plainview. That’s because Lubbock High (3-6, 2-2 in district) is guaranteed no worse than tying with Plainview (3-6, 1-3) for the fourth and final playoff spot in the district, and the Westerners beat Plainview this season to win the tiebreaker.

This will mark the first appearance for Lubbock High in the playoffs since 1975.

Hereford also guaranteed itself a place in the playoffs with the victory. Frenship and Lubbock Monterey will also go to the playoffs out of District 4-4A.
