The Bushland Falcons used a big fourth quarter to upset the Childress Bobcats, 38-21, Friday at Falcon Stadium.
The Falcons improved to 4-6 on the season and 3-2 in the district and will advance to meet the winner of the Denver City and Brownfield game next week at a site to be determined.
The Bobcats fell to 5-5 on the season and 2-3 in district play.
Leading 17-14, the Falcons turned it on in the fourth quarter with two touchdown passes by Taylor Cornelius and a 51-yard touchdown run by Ian Cannon with 1:48 to play sealed the deal.
Childress scored its only points of the second half on a 6-yard pass from Thomas Freeman to Calor Cope that was set up by a 57-yard run by Da’Shoud Hughes.
Bushland kept the dangerous Childress running back in check for the most part, holding Hughes to 106 yards on 16 carries.
The Falcons began the fourth quarter with a Childress punt. The Falcons began on their own 26-yard line and got first downs on four straight plays. The Bobcat defense tightened and forced the Falcons into a fourth-and-10 from the 20. Electing to go for it, Cornelius hit Blane Barnett for a TD and a 24-14 lead.
The Falcons defense forced a turnover on downs on the ensuing Childress possession and took over on the Bobcat 46.
Six plays later, on third-and-8 from the 21, Cornelius found Colter Cornelius for the touchdown and a 31-14 lead with just more than six minutes to play.
The Falcons built a 17-14 halftime lead on a Cornelius touchdown pass to Carson Paetzhold, a 30-yard field goal by J.T. Torres and a 1-yard run by Cornelius.
The Bobcats scored in the first half on a 3-yard run by Hughes and a 40-yard pass from Freeman to Hughes.
Cornelius finished 30-51 for 334 yards with three touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown. Paetzold caught seven passes.
