WOLFFORTH - Big Spring jumped out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead and went on to defeat Canyon, 49-14, in a Class 4A Division II bidistrict game Saturday night at Frenship's Tiger Stadium.
Canyon finished 6-5. Big Spring (7-4) will play at El Paso Riverside in the area round at 8 p.m. Friday.
The Steers led 28-0 with 9:31 left in the second quarter.
Canyon quarterback Spencer Church, playing in his final game, finished with 19 completions in 28 attempts with one intercepted for 272 yards and two touchdowns.
The first TD, which came in the second quarter, was a 15-yard pass to wide receiver Chris Wroten. The other, in the fourth period, was a 31-yard strike to wide receiver Derek O'Dell.
"I'm so very appreciative and proud of our seniors," Canyon coach Blake Bryant said. "The Canyon Eagles always give great effort. The best team won.''
Big Spring quarterback Matt Ritchey had touchdown runs of 6 and 3 yards. He also threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Sidney Parker.
