The Booker Kiowas won two of their first four games last season, beating Hooker, Okla., and Smyer, but they scored only three touchdowns in their final six games. Offensively, they averaged just more than 74 yards on the ground and 103 through the air.

They are in the toughest Class 1A district in the state, along with defending state champions Canadian and Stratford, a pair of teams that have combined for five state titles this decade.

Second-year head coach Craig Jackson faces a daunting task once district play begins because the Kiowas have six-man numbers and face a rough schedule in the final five weeks of the regular season.

Keys To Success: Quarterback Jackson Meyer must cut down on the 23 interceptions of last season, and running back Ricardo Padilla needs to improve on his 450 yards rushing. The Kiowas must take advantage of the large number of returning starters on both sides of the ball.
